I need some suggestions on where to buy plants from. I have always been iffy on buying plants from Walmart, Home Depot, and Lowe’s, just for the fact, most of the time they look like crap.

    Ikea and trader joes! They always have plants below market value! Also don't sleep on Lowes, they're alot better than home depot

      Every big box store is different. All Lowe’s and Home Depot are individually managed. I have three Home Depot and Four Lowe’s. Of those one Home Depot is pretty good and two Lowe’s. The others couldn’t care less about their plants. So you need to check out each store. I have yet to see a Walmart with well cared for plants.

      Very location based IMO because my local Lowe's has a smaller variety (albeit a lot of the same ones) and mostly species I don't want, and debatable care that I've seen. My Home Depot is a lot better with a wider selection I enjoy

    If you can find a local Nursery in your area I’ve always liked going to them versus stores but I agree some Lowe’s have really nice options.

    Local nurseries and plant shops are great and you’re supporting small business owners! The next place I started looking when I REALLY got into the hobby was Facebook marketplace or plant specific Facebook plant groups that might be local to you. Next Palmstreet. That one I haven’t deep dived on as all the other’s have enough options for me at this point.

    Local is always a good. So is Trader Joe’s! I look at plants everywhere I shop and make a decision in the moment. When it’s warm, I also occasionally order on-line from Wayfair and Etsy. 🎉💕🪴💕🎉

      What kind of condition do the plants arrive in when you order from them?

      Very good. They are always very carefully packaged. I ordered 10 mini-succulents from Wayfair and they came in something like an egg carton. I ordered two prayer plants from Etsy and both were in very good condition. The vendors really do take great care in packaging.

    Common plants: the big stores. In my experience the plants are mostly in good condition but you may have to pick and choose. If you're any good at rehabbing, their discount plants will show their gratitude. For uncommon plants and healthier ones, local nurseries are the best. If you want something specific, online specialty nurseries (etsy can work but there are so many scams.) If you want something rarer, go to plant shows; you can find things you never knew existed. Plant societies also do sales for fundraising; it's not every meeting, but they do host vendors often

    I purchase from both local growers and big box stores. Bought my Fiddle Leaf online from HD. It was shipped from the nursery and is magnificent. Have had him for a year or so … and it has literally only dropped one leaf! I bought a plant from Walmart about two months ago, because it caught my eye. Just a pothos … but it is lush and beautiful!
