What luck! The plant in the photos appears to be a **Wandering Dude** (Tradescantia zebrina) or a closely related Tradescantia variety. This plant is known for its attractive, variegated leaves and trailing habit. While your plant shows some healthy growth, there are also signs of stress, such as browning and dried leaves. Here are some tips to help it thrive: ### Care Tips for Tradescantia Zebrina: 1. **Light:** - **Bright, Indirect Light:** Tradescantia plants thrive in bright, indirect light. They can tolerate some direct sunlight but should be protected from intense midday sun, which can scorch the leaves. - **Low Light:** If the plant is in a low-light area, it may become leggy, and the vibrant color of the leaves may fade. Consider moving it to a brighter spot if this is the case. 2. **Watering:** - **Consistent Moisture:** Keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged. Tradescantia likes regular watering, especially during the growing season (spring and summer). Allow the top inch of soil to dry out between waterings to prevent root rot. - **Avoid Overwatering:** Yellowing or mushy stems can be a sign of overwatering. Ensure the pot has good drainage to prevent excess water from sitting at the bottom. 3. **Humidity:** - **Moderate Humidity:** This plant appreciates moderate humidity. If the air is very dry, especially in the winter, consider misting the plant occasionally or placing it near a humidity tray. 4. **Pruning and Maintenance:** - **Trim Dead Growth:** Remove any dead or yellowing leaves to encourage new growth and improve the plant's appearance. Regular pruning helps keep the plant bushy and prevents it from becoming too leggy. - **Pinching:** Pinch back the tips of the stems to promote a fuller, bushier plant. This encourages new branches to form along the stems. 5. **Fertilizing:** - **Regular Feeding:** Feed the plant with a balanced liquid fertilizer every 4-6 weeks during the growing season (spring and summer). Reduce feeding in the fall and winter when growth slows down. 6. **Propagation:** - **Easy to Propagate:** Tradescantia is easy to propagate from stem cuttings. Simply cut a healthy stem, remove the lower leaves, and place it in water or directly into moist soil. Roots should develop within a few weeks. ### Addressing Current Issues: - **Brown and Dry Leaves:** This can be a sign of underwatering, too much direct sunlight, or low humidity. Make sure to water the plant consistently and provide adequate humidity. - **Legginess:** If the plant appears leggy or sparse, it may need more light. Move it to a brighter location to encourage denser growth. - **General Revival:** If the plant is looking a bit tired, pruning back some of the longer stems can stimulate new growth and improve its overall appearance. With proper care and attention, your Tradescantia zebrina should bounce back and thrive. This plant is generally quite resilient and can recover well with the right conditions.

The term wandering Jew is seen as derogatory. So, avoid using it. Some sellers label it wandering dude. Most just use Tradescantia with the variety name or call it inch plant.

Looks like a type of Tradescantia/Wandering Dude. In my experience these guys can handle most lighting conditions, and they do not like getting their leaves wet.

This is a Tradescantia ‘Albiflora Albo-vitta.’ It looks under watered or inconsistently watered. Check the lighting. It looks pale. Lack of sufficient lighting can make it droop and slowly die off. Fertilize regularly. That can darken the leaves.

It’s upset when I water it when soil gets dry, upset when I don’t water it as much. I’ve tried having it away from the window and giving it indirect bright light, nope. Tried having it directly in the window..as I live on the Oregon coast and we don’t get extremely sunny a lot of the time. Still hated it🤣

Try getting a grow light. You can control the amount of time the light is on. You can control the intensity by the distance the light is from the plant. Fertilizer and soil are the only things left to check after adjusting it to a grow light. Good luck!🍀🪴

They do love living in water! I have some cuttings in an old coffee jar in my east window and they are the brightest color pink 😍
