    I think you should wait till there is more roots inside the pot that are visible

    I do agree that they tend to enjoy getting more rootbound between repotting, but if you want to give yourself more time between the next big repot while protecting the roots starting to poke out of the drainage holes, you could gently pull it out of the pot and add a shallow layer of soil to the bottom of the pot, then pop it back in to cover those roots at the bottom. Once you really start seeing those roots swirling around the circumference of the pot and poking out the bottom again, then it could be time for the big repot. 👍
