Does anyone know why this would happen, and so suddenly? My mom thought it was from the heat, but the stem looks unhealthy as well.

Is it smushy? If so be over watering and root rot
0 J'aimeNoo not mushy but extremely dry

1 j'aimeCalathea can be finicky. Was it dry for a while? What sort of light was it in?
1 j'aimeHonestly it was only genuinely dry for a day, I was watering it more frequently than the planta schedule even said to so I had expected it to look borderline dead in 24 hours haha; it’s bright indirect
0 J'aimeI think your plant has been too dry. They like evenly moist conditions so being too dry would cause that leaf curling. They also prefer warm humid temperatures so I don't think the ice is helping. I would water it thoroughly again just to make sure the soil has evenly soaked up moisture rather than the water running through too quickly, let it drain well and then give it some time. A humidifier would be beneficial if you don't have one.

i second this! :) if you want to make sure the soil hasnt gotten hydrophobic, you can also bottom water, which is putting your plant in a similar sized container or pot (w no holes) and filling it with water until it floats. let it absorb the water until the top is moist, then let it fully drain! also, when you repot, make sure to go up ONLY based on the size of the healthy root ball! trim off anything dried or black and mushy, and the pot should only be 1-2 inches bigger to prevent rot! hope this helps!
0 J'aimeAlso, don't let it sit in water once it has drained properly.
2 J'aimeFrom the pic it also looks like it may be ready for an upsized pot (4”). That will keep it from drying out as quickly.
1 j'aimeI agree with you, thank you! I’ve been nervous to repot it out of its nursery pot as I’ve only had it for 2 months and wasn’t sure how long it would take to acclimate to the new temps, I was waiting for spring to consistently not be so cold. But I think I’ll repot it
1 j'aimeIt needs more humidity. That’s why the are curling. And probably a more regular watering regimen.
1 j'aimeThank you!
