I need some help with this ivy plant. Here is how it looked about a month ago. And here it is now. I tried to use the diagnostic part of the app and it told me a water problem. So I was giving it more water and now it looks like it’s dead. It’s dried out and I’m afraid it’s done for 😢. Did I kill this plant or is there a way I can save it? Thanks for any advice from a sad plant mama.

I would try taking a look at the roots. If they look good (not squishy), you might be able to cut back the dead leaves and get new growth. If the roots are dead, I’m sorry 🫶🏼

Do I just take the whole thing out and then put it back in? I’m so new I have never checked roots before.

Yep, I usually just put my hand on top of the soil and flip it over and shake until it comes out. Like trying to get a cake of of a pan lol

Am I supposed to take off the dry leaves and replant the roots and stem or keep them on

If the roots are black and squishy it’s a goner so don’t bother! But if the roots look healthy (white & firm) then you can plant the plant back in the pot and trim the back all the dead leaves and see if it will produce new growth!

Maybe it’s root rot? If you’re watering too much the roots get squishy and can’t absorb water which could make it dry out. Plants are pick so you can dry it out by watering too much lol 😅

You can repot but unless you’re attached to it I wouldn’t bother. That’s far too gone and a lot of effort even if it can be saved. Have a funeral and afterwards cheer yourself up with a trip to the garden centre 👍
