I read several posts here about Ott’s exotic plants. I googled it this morning and found out it’s only about an hour away from me. Since I’m on summer vacation I decided to visit tomorrow. Can anyone give me some tips or recommendations of what to do or look for while I am there? I truly do not need another indoor plant but I am sure I’ll get something! I have been hankering for a peacock plant add to my collection, so if they have a nice once I imagine it will come home with me! Also, I have been interested in getting a fern but I’m worried because I’ve read they are prone to pests. I’ve been really carefully looking after the plants I have and using mosquito bits to keep away gnats and mosquitoes. Do you think I am ready for a fern?

Their peperomias are great. I get most of mine from them and they tend to have a nice selection to choose from. They’re in the room to the left of coming in through the front entrance. Their largest room is in the back, where they’ve got lots of flowers to choose from, as well as most of their cacti and succulents in the back. I spent the most time back there trying to mull over how many I can bring home. If you’re looking for a really cool goldfish plant, I went there last week and they have the krakatau cultivar of it hidden away in their smallest room on the way to the large room in the back. Sadly didn’t have enough on me at the time to grab one, but the point is to check every room out to not miss out on any hidden gems 💎

Thank you! I can’t wait to see it all. Peperomia are my favorite plants so I’ll probably come home with at least one new one.

Here’s a few I’ve gotten from Ott’s. Highly recommend picking up the Peperomia Caperata Cayenne. Never seen that one elsewhere. I really love the color of it. The obtusifolias can handle being repotted shortly after being bought, but the caperatas need to wait at least a month before repotting, as they’re much more prone to shock. I put Bonide’s rooting powder over the roots after taking it out of its pot during repotting to lower the chance of shock and help it recover faster if it does go through shock. Try not to disturb the roots of the caperatas if you can help it. I like replacing some of the peat-heavy soil they tend to come in with Espoma’s Cactus and Succulent Mix for better drainage, but the caperatas can enjoy the peat in the soil, so it’s probably best to leave them alone if you can help it.

Something I like doing with their peperomias since they’re usually about $7-9, ($15-16 at the highest, and that’s for the larger ones) is to get two or three of the same kind of peperomia and combine them into one pot when I get home so they become a bushier plant in less time 😊 did that with my marbled and pepperface peperomias and my peperomia red margin.

I have an asparagus fern and I highly recommend, got it early in my plant journey before I knew anything about them and it’s doing great
