Hello everyone! 😊 I’m a new plant mom and have completely fallen in love with this hobby. I’ve been scrolling through everyone’s beautiful plants and reading your stories, and it’s been so inspiring! I’d love to learn from all of you. If you could recommend one indoor plant that’s beginner-friendly and forgiving, what would it be and why? I’m excited to keep learning and can’t wait to grow my little plant family. 🌿💚

Spider plant, I know they are basic but they will forgive you over and over again I’ve had mine for five years and she has been through everything and is still alive. Monsteras are also a good option but they are a bit harder especially the variegated ones.

Thank you! I actually have a spider plant outside, but now you’ve convinced me I may need one indoors too. 😊 I appreciate the recommendation, and thank you for the tip about Monsteras as well. I’m still learning, so advice like this really helps! 🌿💚

Pothos and snake plants are the official plant starter kit 😁 hoyas can be very forgiving as well and are a bit slower in the beginning. Jade plants as well.

Thank you! 😊 I actually have a snake plant already, and I just ordered a ZZ plant and an Aglaonema today after getting some great recommendations. I’ll definitely have to look into Hoyas and Jade plants next. I can already tell this hobby is becoming a bit of an obsession! 😂🌿💚

African violets and ficus benjamina are both as tough as nails and easy to restart by cuttings if you need to. If you want to get into orchids, phalaenopsis are a great starter for epiphytes and paphiopedilums or jewel orchids are good beginner terrestrials (orchids can be a teeny bit unusual on care, but once you know the basics, they're very durable.) If you find carnivorous plants interesting, start with a sundew or butterwort. If you want to try outdoor plants, zinnias. For growing your own food, tomatoes are super easy. For bonsai, ficus are very forgiving. For tropicals/aroids, pothos, philodendrons, and tradescantia are all very hardy. For cacti/desert species, I've had the best luck with barrel type cacti

Thank you so much! This is incredibly helpful. I actually have four Phalaenopsis orchids already, so I’m learning firsthand that they’re teaching me patience. 😊 I also just ordered a ZZ plant and an Aglaonema today, but you’ve given me several more plants to research. I really appreciate you taking the time to share all of this with a beginner! 🌿💚. I love your recommendations!

I'm happy to help! I like giving beginners a start towards the more challenging plants, because anyone can care for those with a bit of practice. 😀

That’s really encouraging to hear. 😊 Thank you! I’m excited to learn the basics first and build my confidence before I branch out into more challenging plants. Hopefully one day I’ll be the one welcoming another beginner and sharing what I’ve learned. 🌿💚

😂 Oh no… don’t tell me that! I can already see myself heading in that direction. I started with “just a couple of plants,” and somehow I’m already waiting on two more to arrive. 🌿💚 Hopefully I’ll stop long before I hit 250… but I have a feeling famous last words! 🤣

Pothos! I did not know how to care for it when I got it but they are very forgiving and now it is happy and thriving!

Thank you! 😊 I keep hearing Pothos come up, so I think the plant community is trying to tell me something. 😂 It’s definitely moving up my wish list! I’m still very new to all of this, but I’m loving how welcoming and helpful everyone has been. Thanks so much for the recommendation! 🌿💚

I would start with a Thanksgiving Cactus ( they aren’t actually cactus, more succulent). They are really easy to take care of and propagate like a dream!

Thank you! 😊 I’ve never even heard of a Thanksgiving Cactus, so now I have another plant to learn about. I love how everyone keeps introducing me to something new! I’m making a little list of all these recommendations, and it’s growing almost as fast as my plant wish list. 🌿💚

My first plant was a Raven ZZ that was gifted to me. But I’d say I’ve done pretty well with my Ruby Rubber Plant and my Rubber Plant Tineke. I’m also a beginner that has healthy addiction to plants 🪴💕

Thank you! 😊 I’m smiling because my very first new plant after Bridget was actually a ZZ plant too, so now I’m excited to see how Gwen grows. I’ve never heard of a Raven ZZ or a Tineke Rubber Plant, so those are officially going on my “plants to research” list. I’m beginning to think this really is a healthy addiction! 🌿💚😊

Airplants are the easiest plants to start with. You can’t go wrong with soil because they don’t need any. You can’t go wrong with watering because they make it visibly obvious and can go weeks past that point without any water. Watering is super easy, you just submerge them in dechlorinated water for however long, I’ve accidentally left some for 18 hours in a soap water and they didn’t mind. One 4$ bag of fertilizer will last you over a year for even 20+ airplants.

Thank you so much! 😊 I’ve never looked into air plants before, but they sound really unique, especially since they don’t even need soil. I’m definitely adding them to my list to learn more about. They’re beautiful! 🌿 Can I ask what the names of the air plants are in your photo? I’d love to look them up and learn more about them. 💚

Most of them have their correct names on them. The Tillandsia Duratii are neat because they have prehensile leaves that they can grab and climb with

Thank you so much! 😊 I had no idea there were so many different varieties of air plants. The Tillandsia Duratii sounds fascinating. I can’t believe it can actually grab onto things and climb! I’m definitely going to spend some time reading about these. Thank you for taking the time to share your collection and teach a beginner like me. I’m learning something new every day thanks to all of you! 🌿💚 Thank you so much

I would also recommend looking into a few philodendrons, especially ones similar to pothos, like the brasil, heartleaf, cream splash...very easy and are quick growers.

Thank you! 😊 I keep hearing philodendrons come up too, so I think that’s another sign I need to learn more about them. I was actually browsing my plant app earlier today and already have a few in my cart! 😂 I’m trying to pace myself, but everyone keeps giving me such great recommendations. Thank you so much for pointing me in the right direction! 🌿💚
