I got this plant at a plant sale at the end of June. I figured it would bloom by now (all the ones at Home Depot had haha). Any advice for this guy? I feel like he could be doing so much better

Just give it time. East or west facing window is a good spot; bottom water only, and only when completely dry; they need a very well draining soil, so extra perlite and/or vermiculite; a little fertilizer and it’ll be blooming in no time. Mine is on its second bloom cycle since I got it in April
0 J'aimeon a second look at your plant— if this isn’t a bottom watering pot (I don’t think it is..) I suggest watering very carefully with a teaspoon or syringe, avoiding getting the leaves wet (they don’t like that) and water only a little bit for the time being as I think this pot is a bit large for the size of your plant
0 J'aimeThat’s the nursery pot it came in when I got it! I bought it at a plant sale from a thrift store and I figured it would grow into it… should I go down a size?
0 J'aimeIf you’re going to change the soil (which i recommend) you might as well size down, yes. A small like..2.5” nursery pot would probably work depending on what the roots look like. That would facilitate easy bottom watering too and you can hide it inside a cute little cover pot. OR just find a small, like 4 inch african violet pot
0 J'aimeI bought mine in a 2.5 inch nursery pot and moved it almost immediately to this 4in bottom watering pot. I was careful with watering using the method I described above for a while before I started using the violet pot as intended — I actually still use the syringe method when I fertilize lol
