What are the most popular pon products used as a substrate for semi hydro plants? I’ve been researching Amazon, and there are so many different kinds, I had trouble finding just the right one… 😵‍💫! TIA!

i have seen content creators use lechuza-pon, a german brand (specifically Paige or “blossomeffect_” on TT/insta)

Lechuza-pon is probably the most popular pon product out there. You can make your own pon mix with pumice, lava rock, and zeolites as well as a fertilizer. Quite a few of the cheaper pon products don't have the fertilizer portion, but it's easy to add, or if you fertilize with watering.

Stratum is great, I use it for TC acclimation and props. Either straight or mixed with perlite or pumice. It's honestly pretty Fing expensive if you want to use it as a "pon" substitute. Eventually ypu would need to use a fertilizer with it, as though the stratum has some, they aren't ever lasting. Example being, I will reuse stratum, but I noticed after a period of time and uses, the plants didn't grow as well. So I just started adding a diluted fertilizer to it/with waterings

Leca is also a semi-hydro option, and if you have a hydroponic store near you, that's usually the cheapest place to buy it. I have a few plants in it and they do well.

Which is your favorite lechuza-pon product? (I’m a little burnt out on making up my own plant soil mixes!) Since I’m using Plant Juice, by Elm Dirt, I did call, and was told that it was appropriate for a semi- hydro plant.

This darn app, it still won’t let me edit…😤, but I’ll continue on… ( I accidentally sent that app before I was finished…LOL!) I just wanted to say, so you think stratum is not the best of ideas, and I should stick to Lechuza pon? What is your choice of stratums, and what do you think of the product I posted just above? TIA! PS. This is one of my crazy days… 🤪!

Oh yea, if you don't want to mix, I'd go with the Lechuza-pon, it's way more cost effective than it used to be. When I first bought it I had to literally import it myself for a big shipping fee 😆. But Amazon has it now. There are different varieties, I get the one with fertilizer, but since you do elm, the without should be fine. The only issue I have had with Lechuza-pon was when I went to use the second half of the bag, almost every pot molded. So now I spritz it with peroxide or Antifungal prior to use, to kill off any spores.

I use fluval stratum, just not in hydro. Look at the bag SIZE!!! It is really crazy. And I have seen something Amazon posts have a larger bag picture than what they are selling, so just double check. And like I said expensive 🙄. This is the 4.4lb bag, it would barely fill maybe a 6" pot and an additional maybe 2 of 4" size. And this sells for around $20-25. Then they have an 8.8lb and a 17.6lb. Chewy had the cheapest price for the 17.6# at like 54.99 and I had a coupon!!

There are other stratum out there. Exo-terra makes one, imagitarium does, Aqueon, Ultum nature systems. They are all either way more expensive, or a similar cost to Fluval. And I have purchased various fluval products over the years, and use this in my aquariums. So I go with it

That’s a big, THANK YOU, for telling me that! I will definitely spritz with peroxide before I use any pon! (Mold…🤢!)

That is there regular pon with fertilizer for tropical/indoor plants. And the one I have used. There is also Basic Pon that has no fertilizer , some of the packaging has changed but this is the new basic pon paging. They literally make like 12 different pons lol from outdoor to citrus to palm to cactus, etc. But the bag you showed, with fertilizer is the one I've used

The bag for the regular with fertilizer. And the basic used to look very similar. So I would just check the description and if it says fertilizer or not.

If I get the fertilized pon, will it hurt my plants to use that plus the Plant Juice? (… not knowing how long the fertilizer in the pon will last.) Or should I stay with the non-fertilized pon? TIA!

I think the website says like 3-6 months. I still use liquid fertilizer with it. And haven't had any issues

This was the other one I was going to try. It has similar ingredients, and since you fertilize won't matter that it doesn't have fertilizer in. I noticed a few of the Lechuza-pon had like a $41 shipping&delivery charge‼️‼️⁉️
