Hi All! Two very interesting developments in my calathea warscewiczii… a flower and a mushroom at the same time. What does it mean? Has anyone experienced this? Is it a good thing? I have 40+ houseplants, mostly calatheas but this is new to me. Intel appreciated! (I’m excited). Thank you 🙏💗

Yep, that type of mushroom is common in a healthy (and moist) pot. Additionally, soil fungi often free up phosphorus for plants, and phosphorus is involved in initiating flowering, so they COULD be related. It'd be hard to find out for sure, though!

At what point do I have to remove the mushroom and/or the flower?

Well, I don't know about the flower-- but you can remove the mushroom whenever you want. I don't remove them at all; they are mostly water and break down very quickly.

It’s very cute and almost neon green. I have no reason to remove it.

That's flowerpot parasol! It's a harmless companion to plants, so you can keep it if you like (the mushroom part will eventually dry up and can be removed at that point, but the mycellium (fungus roots) will stay and can bloom again eventually. If you have any curious pets or children, it's best to pick the mushroom since it can cause stomach upset if it's eaten
