So I had to have minor surgery in Juneand I was given a bouquet of flowers with this branch in it. Everything died except the branch so I put it in a smaller vase and left it. About 2 weeks ago I noticed little bumps on the leaves and thought they looked like they could be flowers popping out but today I saw they are new leaves. Does anyone know what it is and can I cut off the leaves and plants them? Will they root. I'm very excited to see what happens. Thanks for any help

That plant is a butchers' broom (ruscus species). They're unusual in that they have cladodes (widened stems) instead of leaves for photosynthesis (they do have leaves as well, but they're tiny). The little bloom is part of the flower, and can fruit. While these last a long time in bouquets, they can't root because they don't have any nodes when cut this way. If you wanted to grow one, you'd need to buy a live plant. It can do well even in poor quality soil, but it is vulnerable to harsh temperatures. For the usa, it'd do best as a houseplant, but it's not often available to buy
