I’m thinking about selling a few of my plants, but given the winter weather, I’m leaning towards something like Facebook Marketplace to find someone local to take them off my hands rather than any option where I’d have to send them through the mail right now. I’ve never sold my plants before, so I could use some advice as to how to keep them warm during the handover process (since if I were to meet up with a buyer, it would go from my car to the frigid cold rn, into to their hopefully somewhat warmer car, taken out and exposed to the cold to get in the house, then finally given a chance to acclimate in their new home). I’m considering adding heat packs and putting them in a box, then gently wrapping them in a blanket or something to try keeping them warmer, but if anyone has any suggestions for how to package it and keep it as warm as possible during the transfer and trip to their house, it’d be greatly appreciated 🙏 TIA!

If specifics of the plants help, the ones I’m thinking of selling are a Peperomia Santorini, Peperomia caperata ‘Cayenne’, Peperomia clusiifolia ‘Red Margin’, Aeschynanthus ‘Bolero Bicolor’, and Hoya Krohniana. And unfortunately (though I’ll wait a few weeks for the recent snow to melt and hopefully pass if more comes before selling these) I live in southeastern PA, so warm weather isn’t coming anytime soon 😅

I have one plant that I plan on selling also but I’m going to wait till warmer weather. I don’t want someone blaming me for a frozen plant. Just wait a couple more months. I’ve taken my plant out of the hoard and moved it to the family room with a grow light. It may be lonely but it’s just too big. It’s a philodendron choco empress.

I’m thinking of meeting up at the Giant of the Snyder Square Shopping Center in Hatfield. I know I should probably wait until spring, but I’m trying to downsize my collection…mostly so I have more room for new plants come spring 😂 I love peperomias (as you can see), but I’ve got a ton of them now, so I’d just like to give these to someone who’d appreciate them.

Well I'm in West kelowna BC... So unless you shipping them out then yea... But I do love the first plant, what is it?

It’s a Hoya Krohniana 😊 And sadly, I don’t think I’ve got the experience to ship any of my plants just yet, especially during the winter. Thank you for letting me know your interest, though! I’ve got this one from Ott’s Exotic Plants. They’re pretty easy to care for in terms of Hoyas. They don’t enjoy being repotted or having their roots fooled with; and you might want to pin some of the stems down to help them root on the surface, cause they’ve got pretty shallow root systems. I’m fairly new to Hoyas, but this one and the arctic variety I have of it were pretty easy care imo.

This is his sister, Leia. I’m not selling her, though. I like her way too much 😂 There’s nothing wrong with either of them. I’ve just found Leia a little more visually interesting. Luke needs someone that’s gonna appreciate him the way I appreciate Leia. 🌱

If you ship them out for free it would be a maybe for me depending on how much your selling each of them for. EDIT: Anyway good luck!!!

I’m a pep fan also. And I don’t have any of those, unfortunately you are 3 hours from me.

Here’s to hoping some of them come your way come spring, then 😊 I got all but the Santorini at Ott’s Exotic Plants. They had the Hoyas from late summer to October, the Cayenne I got around May, the clusiifolias are pretty much there year round, and the Santorini is from Giant of all places.

I've seen biological samples shipped in little styrofoam coolers. It's a great insulator-- you could line your box with styrofoam so your plants are cozy and be sure to inform the seller that they get what they get 😅

I didn’t think of styrofoam 🤔 I’ll have to look into that. Thank you! 😃

It's cheap, readily available, and easy to cut-- it could help! Also, if you can hang on to Isobel til March, I'll be in your area. If not, I totally get it! She's beautiful 😍

I think I can probably hold onto Izzy until March… 😉 I think I’ll list the rest on Marketplace and see if anyone’s interested in the other three. That’ll at least make some more room for any new plants I spot come spring. I’ve had Izzy the longest out of the bunch, so I’d love to give her to someone that’ll appreciate her. 😊 She’s also ridiculously easy care imo. I will say that she enjoys a south facing windowsill best if you want her to push new leaves out every 1-2 weeks, but I’ve found that to be the case with all my obtusifolias.

I would say utilizing the styrofoam with a heating pack. That would help significantly. I’m hoping to sell some of my plants and rooted cuttings as well but this weather makes me nervous. I might try to ship with the guarantee that I’ll replace the plant if it dies and ship the replacement in the warmer months. Either way maybe try the heating pack.
