John’s pot that he came in is pretty cool, right!? But, absolutely 0 drainage! Due to this, and some neglect, he has steadily gone downhill for the last few years…it was recommended to me, by one of these awesome Planta people, to put him in a simple pot a bit smaller than the owl and put him in that and add a good layer of pebbles at the bottom of this pot and put him and the smaller pot (with great drainage) above that rock layer!
1 j'aimeI bought a pre-made terrarium a while back for the hoya in it. It also has a large type of moss and a small fittonia. So far so good; I removed some dropped leaves today and nothing is declining. I do think I'll redo it at some point. It gets almost zero maintenance; I haven't needed to water it at all and I only give it fresh air once every few weeks
5 J'aimeMy snake plant has been in the same pot with no drainage for probably 4 years or longer 😬 and it started out as just a one leaf propagation.
6 J'aimeThis is what I’m talking about 🙌🏻
1 j'aimeDr Malcolm knows. Yup i have several. You just have to be smart about it. Dont over water, use chunky soil that allows air in. Give it a good skewer a day after watering to help keep that soil from compacting too much and helps it breath. I tend to do mostly cactus and succulents in those options but have had many kinds over the years.
3 J'aimeI was gifted a corn plant twelve years ago, not knowing what i was doing it went into a pot without drainage. It’s doing okay. I repotted it a couple years ago, still not knowing what i was doing, into general potting soil without trimming the roots. It’s still alive. I water maybe every four weeks, never fertilized, and just trim the top and pluck dead leaves. It will occasionally get ground mold if i over water.
2 J'aimeI think one of my pothos is in a pot without drainage. I noticed yesterday it might now! It’s one of those that I think you’re supposed to twist it to get water to come out the sides. I don’t know if I’ve ever done that!
2 J'aimeThat’s cool I haven’t heard of those!!
0 J'aimeI have 2 of those wall mounted “self watering” containers too. Pothos and fern are thriving after 8 years.
1 j'aimeActually, they’re older, maybe 15 years?
1 j'aimeYeah! I have one that’s been in the same wall planter for about 10 years. I miiiiight take it out and refresh the soil soon. Maaaaybe… 😆
1 j'aimeThe plantar is a thick wedge 8 inches deep there is about 4 inches of soil. I do feed it periodically. Someday, I’ll replace the soil. The pic is, of course, not a plant, but a Rose Breasted Grosbeak (female)
0 J'aimesorry, planter.
