So I bought 3 spider plant clippings and they arrived like 2 weeks ago or so now. I quarantined them the first week by themselves, checked for pest and everything. I repotted in a self watering planter this passed Monday and the leaves are starting to turn brown and black. I’m worried about her. Is she getting to much water? Should I change the pot? Not enough light or to much light? Please help

It’s most likely getting too much water

Okay, thank you! I’ll take it out of the water and see if that helps any

So I took a clipping from a family members spider plant. It was literally dying for weeks when I had it in soil. A week ago I moved it to just water to get a better root system and it’s growing and happy! Was there a good root system when you planted them?

There was! They where pretty decent sized plugs. I just put the three together

I removed it from the self watering pot, and put it away from the others in some brighter light, it seems to be doing a lot better. I believe it was getting over watered, so I guess we will see how she is in a week or so. If she’s no better, I’ll do as you suggested!

i have loads of spider plants now and all of mine are healthy. they quite like bright indirect light, so bright light but no sun, or they also don’t mind low light, so far from a window, but not a dark corner or behind something. yellow leaves can mean over or under watering, if they’re at the bottom it might just be an old leaf which is normal. i water mine when they fully dry out. if it goes silver in colour, it means it needs watering. if it loses its greenness i feed mine with a liquid houseplant feed. repotting, i repot mine when there is alot of roots coming out the bottom, however i’ve noticed if the roots are full in the pot they tend to push babies out more. i wouldn’t really say spider plants need a grow light and they aren’t the type of plant that need it. definitely don’t keep yours in a self watering pot. good luck
