Hi all, could use some help. Eileen (Ficus "Audrey") was pushing out a new leaf every two weeks when I first got her last year. I've been waiting for her to come out of winter hibernation, but nothing yet. As for her living conditions, I water her well and humidity is regulated in the space (55%). I also gave all my plants fertilizer about a month ago. Any advice or thoughts as to why she's stunted? The only thing I could think of is temperature, it never goes below 68° in the room but when it finally heats up outside (snowed last week, smh) it'll definitely shoot above 70°.

Well, she looks fine! No indications in the leaves of any problem. I bet she’ll start growing again soon. Your temperature is fine. Does she have enough light? I have a tineke that takes awhile to get going again in the spring but she always does. That new bud is going to start popping out in the next few weeks I bet. Be patient! You got this!

I appreciate the enthusiasm! This is the first time I've had her over a winter and watched her hibernate, so I want to make sure she's comfy coming out of retirement. She actually has more light than she did last spring/summer, so I'm hoping it'll give her more of a boost

For added context, all my other plants are all pushing out new leaves so she's kinda the odd one out rn, hence the curiosity

Ficus need way more light than you think! It’s probably needing more to push out new growth

My leaf burn anxiety: 📈 But if it's what she wants then it's what she gets! I'll give it a try

I put mine (ficus tineke) on my shaded south facing porch in the summer and it loves it! It gives me HUGE leaves. Then I bring it back inside to a south window for the winter and the leaves are small. If you’re afraid of leaf burn , you could add a grow light starting at a foot or two away and then slowly move the closer to the plant. If you do decide to move the plant outside, remember to acclimate it gradually as well

Now that I think about it, ficus plants are literal trees in their natural environment. Of course they'd be able to tolerate direct sun, because trees get direct sun. Interesting how both Planta and my care guide that came with the plant both said bright indirect

That is usually a safe, general statement for most houseplants. Direct sun would cause leaf burn for ficus if you didn’t gradually expose them to the sun though

I have my ficus tineke in a shaded west facing window with a grow light. I’m afraid of sunburn as well. And yes this is a tree, but not all trees grow in full sun. Some grow on the jungle floor as understory trees. Also, they very much prefer to be put in a spot and left there and not moved around too much. Bright indirect light is correct which translates to “no direct sun.” But you just have to do what feels right for you. Your little tree is beautiful and is going to start growing soon and be gorgeous!
