Hi! Sorry for another question. Been given this Chinese evergreen I believe it is. It's been living in water for god knows how long, but I'd like to transfer it into soil instead. I've read it can shock the plant and give it root rot as its accustomed to water. What are all the necessary steps I should take to getting this baby into soil without harming/killing the plant? Also, could some identify the exact type of Chinese evergreen this is please?

I know people will say you can buy product, which is fine and works for some people. If you don’t want to buy anything, I will plop it into soil and keep it moist for the next few days and monitor closely for a few months. I know there’s tons and tons of videos about it on Youtube as well to avoid root rot and get through the shock stage.

By “moist”, i mean a SWAMP, be generous! And then wean it off after a day

So water like a normal plant, as in until water drains from bottom, but water a tiny bit each day just to ensure the soil is still wet at top? Is miracle gro cactus, palm, citrus potting mix okay? Also adding extra perlite.

The soil should stay pretty moist for a few days so it should be okay, don’t drench it for multiple days in a row. I don’t really like miracle gro’s cactus soil because I think it’s too dense. I usually will make my own chunky mix with all purpose, perlite, and orchid bark or LECA, whichever I have on hand. This is a tropical plant so we want something that retains water within the substrate, but doesn’t expel oxygen from it, which is how we get rotting roots.

It looks like a Silver Queen. I agree to pot it in well draining soil. Give it a good watering and just let it acclimate. As mentioned, the soil will be pretty moist so don’t water again until needed.

Is there an update on the Chinese Evergreen? Have you placed it on soil or did you have change of heart?
