Does anybody know what these spots are? I was doing a progress report and found two leaves with sort of an orangey round spot, as you can see in the pics. I’ve recently sprayed it at least four times, with the first three sprays a copper fungicide and the last spray with neem oil. TIA!
I wanted to add that while checking out my other plants, I found this succulent with what looks like maybe a similar problem. It seems like quite a few of the backs of the leaves have these marks. Is it the same problem as the other succulent, or what? TIA!

Looks like edema! Just a small reaction to too much water, it's pretty normal and not much to worry about. My mom's obtusifolia also has them lol

So if the plant police came and saw my plant, they wouldn’t arrest me for a plant abuse? Even though those leaves look pretty bad, there isn’t a bug, or fungus on it? If that’s so, it is a huge relief; I thought I was going to have to go back and do another spray program, like I did with black spot…😖! TXS!

0 Me gustaSo, I was thinking either edema or possibly some type of rust. I was doing a little searching for my own knowledge and I came across an article by University of Illinois extension office. Like others, I thought edema was caused by over absorption of water but according to this site, there is some evidence that edema could be a virus. They also describe edema as raised pimply like spots. At this point I'm not sure what to think. The fact that you're getting it on another plant May indicate that it's a fungus. You could treat for a fungus as a precaution and just keep an eye on it. Can I make things any more confusing for you! I certainly am confused about it.

Edema cannot spread to other plants, and isn’t a plant virus, but a condition that’s often caused by changes in the temperature and humidity levels. I’ve found it tends to hit my plants in the winter, especially my jades and Peperomia. I’ve seen those spots before on my Peperomia and they’re from edema, so please don’t worry about something worse. Peperomia are especially susceptible to edema due to the succulent-like nature of their leaves, so it’s very likely both plants have the edema markings because they’re both Peperomia, not because it is spreading. Don’t remove affected leaves until the edema has stopped spreading, or it’ll just start affecting new leaves. I’ve found the best way to remedy it is to make sure they’re in well-draining soil, and if already so, aerate it every couple of weeks, make sure it’s drying out between waterings, and most importantly, in a spot away from drafty windows or air vents. If it’s recently gotten colder where you live, it could just be from being too close to a window or door. I moved mine from their windows and under a grow light and they’ve been great ever since. The edema never started spreading to my other plants from the Peperomia joining their spot under the grow lights. Hope this helps!
1 me gusta I’ve repotted my succulents in a succulent soil by Miracle Grow. I really don’t care for it, because this particular medium seems to pack down very heavily, and it takes forever, it seems, before they need to be watered again. Even though my succulents have been repotted fairly recently, do you think I should change out the soil for a better, well draining, medium? TIA!
0 Me gusta Definitely. I’ve never had good experiences with Miracle Grow soil, even their succulent mix. I’ve found it’s not well draining enough and pretty heavy of a mix for a lot of plants, so it could very possibly be contributing. I swear by Espoma’s Organic Cactus and Succulent Mix 😊

0 Me gusta I’ve used Espoma since about 2017 or so. The Miracle Grow could definitely be contributing to the edema if the soil isn’t well draining enough, especially for a peperomia. I think I’ve got about 18-20 succulents atm in my house, not counting the peperomia as they’re not succulents, but have leaves that are succulent-like in nature. They’re epiphytic plants, so they need a well draining soil mix if they’re potted in soil. Mine do just fine in Espoma’s Cactus and Succulent Mix alone, without extra perlite or any additives, which makes it easy to repot them. The other contributor could be the location of the peperomias, but if they’re not in a space that’s near drafty windows, air vents, or frequently opening entrance doors, then it’s most likely the soil affecting your plant the most.
