Question: I just recently moved my quilted alocasia and my silver dragon into fluval stratum. Both of them were showing signs of root rot. That’s why I made the transition. My questions are, how often should I add water? How often should I change it out for fresh stratum?

I treat stratum like semi-hydro. So when the top of the stratum is drying out, I add more water. Never totally dry. That’s been working great for my frydek corm. In aquariums, people tend to change stratum after 2-3 years. I haven’t used it for terrestrial plants long enough to see how long it last for that application

I’m growing a tiny frydek from a corm that’s been propagating in sphagnum moss. I’m thinking of moving it into stratum. What are your thoughts? The two leaves that it has now and curling downward. I’m not sure what that’s all about. Any idea?

I’ve been really liking the stratum. No complaints with this medium. The downturned leaves might be due to lower humidity than it prefers. I have mine in a plastic cup with another cup on top as a humidity dome
