🌿 Hello everyone! 👋 I'm excited to join this group! My name is Nishith and I'm from Austin, TX. Lately, I've been diving into plant care and I'm looking forward to learning and sharing with all of you. I'm currently planning my patio and backyard garden and would love some advice on outdoor plants and trees that thrive in our Austin climate. I've been eyeing a Myrtle tree and a cherry tree, but I'm unsure if they'll do well here. Any suggestions or tips would be greatly appreciated! Looking forward to connecting with fellow plant enthusiasts and growing some green goodness together. 🌱💚

Welcome! You arrived at the right place for plant care. Enjoy. I have a crepe myrtle that grow well in Texas. I’m on the gulf coast. It withstands high heat and humidity. It loses most or all leaves in colder months. I fertilize in spring. Crepe myrtles begin blooming in June. I have not grown northern cherry trees in Texas. Good luck🍀🪴

This is very sweet. Welcome Nishith! I agree with Sunny, Crape Myrtle’s are a tough and beautiful flowering tree. They come in all sizes now and the bark is really beautiful 💚

hello hello! i just recently moved from Austin to elsewhere in TX, but will try to give any tips i can :) basically you need plants that can withstand HOT weather, but won’t die the instant we get a freeze (which is basically every year now). crepe myrtles do well, as well as hostas, cacti, and yuccas. basically native plants, as most other stuff will suffer. you need to be ready to water almost every day, and i would recommend getting plants that are already pretty well-established instead of babies as they’ll be more hardy. definitely do some digging into plants that are native to the area, wildflower.org is a good spot to start. expect that some (or most) of your first round of plants will die! it takes some time to get to a point where you know what you’re doing and that is totally okay. living (and growing) here isn’t for the faint of heart. best of luck!!! 💚🌷
