I have recently entered the world of BEGONIAS…🥳! I’ve only had them in my yard on the patio during summers, and they’ve always been beautiful; I’ve never had any problems with them. I have stepped out in faith, and purchased five of them for indoors, and have some questions about watering. Somewhere, somebody said begonias like to be on the dry side before they get watered. That someone also mentioned a percentage I should look for before I water. If anybody recalls what those percentages are, can you please tell me what that is? TIA!

I’m not an expert or a professional. I do this for me. The minute it stops being fun, I will give away all 66 plants. However, about my begonias….i love my Rex, I almost killed it 8 months ago. Polka dot is three times size since purchased in Wimberley TX last October and iron cross just kind of sits there. They live in my indoor green house with a humidifier. I don’t water or fertilize until planta tells me to….cuz I don’t know any better! LOL

lol, I’m all for a wine party! I remember that one post though, the guy had said he let his begonias dry to about 15% on his water reading meter before watering again. I also follow Jungle Haven on YouTube and she was having troubles with her begonia sinbad, and there was this one lady in the comments that had good advice to put the begonia in a unglazed terracotta pot instead of a glass jar or plastic pot and also had advice on the soil makeup!

I’ve never looked at comments on YouTube videos, since I didn’t even know they existed, so TXS for this info! I’ve just repotted my begonias into plastic pots, but I’m going to rethink that, and probably purchase terra-cotta pots instead.

Also, I’m amazed you could remember that info on percentages of watering for begonias… TXS so much; you obviously have a sharp mind! Also, I’m still up for that party; let’s have that Pinot, and drown our sorrows over plant care… 😉!

Yeah of course! They’re so helpful sometimes when you get people who are experience with a certain plant that even the YouTuber isn’t lol. Yeahhh, I had my new begonia arrival in a plastic pot but I checked the soil after a few days and realized it hadn’t even dried a bit since I got it. So I hastily repotted and removed all the soil off the roots (thankfully they didn’t smell or feel off) and then put it in a mix similar to the YouTube comment and in an unglazed terracotta pot. I also added some hydrogen peroxide to the water since I was paranoid. Hopefully it’ll be good in the long run, so far so good 🤞🏼 Aw haha thanks! Random facts stick with me sometimes, have a science major so I’m a nerd when it comes to science stuff of all sorts lol. Oh totally!! Sharing a virtual glass with you! 😉🍷

🍷… back at cha, 😋! I sure wish I had your memory, maybe, someday! Also, can you tell me what the ratio of peroxide is to your water, and do you do it for your plants general health, or as an insecticide? TIA! PS. And how often do you use your peroxide mix?

😊 Oh I probably gave the 4 inch potted plant about 2 cups of water before it was thoroughly soaked and then threw in about a tablespoon of peroxide. I don’t use it all too often but when I do it’s usually if I fear rot or fungal things are happening or might happen.
