Does anyone else have a hard time with Alocasias? I got a humidifier just for this plant lol. I’ve tried clay pebbles before deciding to just use soil.

You are not alone. I gave up on them. Had six about a year ago. Three now. I have two together in semi hydro that are doing ok. My Polly, my first one from a few years ago, is growing like crazy. Polly is in a fast draining soil. No humidifier. Poly has also gone dormant two times. Coming back from the dead after a few moths. In the pic, the leaves look a little yellow because of the amber chandelier.

1 likeNope definitely not alone! They can be a bit difficult.
4 likesSo far I have had mini success with the glass container with leca at the bottom and sphagnum moss
0 likesI’m not an expert by any means! I had one Alocasia before July when I found Whatnot. I now have 32. All are doing well. I have never used a humidifier and all of them except tissue cultures I repotted in a chunky soil mix and clear nursery pot and cache outer pot. I let them almost completely dry out before watering. Some have grow lights others just natural daylight.
5 likes32! I would say you’re an expert lol. Thank you for sharing what you do, I’ll try it out.
2 likesYes, I have one in leca and it’s been rough. I just changed the water today and a white root fell off! Not even a root with rot. Hanging on by a string here
1 likeHealthy Alocasia shouldn’t need high humidity. With the look of that the problem should be the roots. I strongly recommend using pon and self watering pot for Alocasia, makes everything easy.
0 likesI will try leca, thank you! I live in AZ so humidity is kinda low so, I thought that might be some of the issues.
0 likesSome can be temperamental for sure. Dragons breath is my favorite!!!
