What is the one plant in your collection that you regret getting?… | Anything about plants | Planta-community

What is the one plant in your collection that you regret getting? I’ll start: Bonnie curly Spider Plant. She looks pretty, but not only do I have frequent brown tips, but she is so dense at the base with all the curls, it’s impossible to see where you are watering and trying to clean dead leaves out.

She does look super pretty though! Mine is Rex begonias. I’ve ended up throwing three of them out the door because they hate me. I only have two that have thrived. And though my maculata is a top of the list plant for me she absolutely loathes me and I had to completely chop and prop nearly the entire plant to save her.

That's the worst. I had issues with my ferrox when I got her, it was a bit to figure out her needs in my house

Callisia Repens is a regret. Two promptly died but not before dropping segments that are thriving even though freezing temperatures as they invasively carpet their way from pot to pot. You have to regularly trim them like boxwood to maintain their globe shape.

Mine is King Salvia flowers, as soon as the flowers that were on the plant when I bought it started to dry up they never came back. I tried dead heading and fertilizing and cutting it back before it’s next blooming season but to no avail. It got plenty of light and is in a gritty soil. But it just got all leggy and viney instead of the bushy flowering plant I bought, I’m hoping this spring when I cut it back to wake it up from dormancy it’ll get its act together lol

I have that woth the orchid cactus cuttings my grandma gave me. Just string bean growth, not at all what her plant looks like. It's so frustrating

I know! I’m not sure what else to do, I’ve always heard cut it back and it’ll be fuller but been there did that and nothing lol

I had a red peperomia that I fussed with for two years before finally giving up and pitching it. I kept it trimmed, tried propagating, higher/lower light levels, and it was always leggy. I wanted to love it, but it refused to love me back.

One of these? I seem to be having good luck. They like cold mist steams.

Kalanchoe. north Atlantic climate is bad for those sun loving guys, so she threw a tantrum after a tantrum, infected with every single thing there is, and ended up a brown stump, bless her heart 😅

Yeah, I can’t get up the nerve to try one of those, they seem a bit like Divas.

I’ve killed 3 Kalanchoe I think. I’ve decided to stop pushing myself on the poor guys. It’s clear I’m not wanted!

As much as I hate to say it, it’s probably most of my cactus and succulents. I’m new to the plant obsession and went overboard, per usual. I incorrectly assumed being in Arizona, it was a great place to grow these beauties… outside. We’ve had to build sun shelter for them for the summer and now there are 30 some plants in the house to protect them from winter. I still love them, but it’s really not what I wanted taking over the house, lol.

Having just visited i can definitely see how that winter drop in temp could be detrimental. It was like 75 then down to 40 at night. At least it's a lovely display

I'm gonna also say a peperomia i have. It looks so horribly sad as soon as fall hits and then is a whole bush in spring/summer. I've been ignoring trimming it back, it's so sad

Do peperomia belong to the drama club?

This one sure does!!! I have avoided buying more despite how cute they are, because of it. It looks SO good in the spring and summer, and every fall it just crushes my dreams
