Hello! I’m pretty new to plants and have a bit of a problem. I recently received this succulent from my boyfriend. As you can see it’s clearly gotten way too big and can no longer support itself. Would it be alright to chop this at some point on its stem and replant it? Any help with this would be appreciated!!

You can cut the whole stem up. The top section will root in water just leave a stump by plucking off the lower leaves. The leaves can then be put in succulent soil, keep moist. The original plant can be cut down and new ones will grow from that. Enjoy!

Completely agree with Ji11 here. Just wanted to add to please DO NOT USE MIRACLE GROW. Even the succulent soil mix holds moisture for too long, especially in humid climates. I made the mistake to try the brand again, even adding an entire bag of perlite in hopes of giving it even better drainage, and the soil remained completely damp for 14 DAYS. Nearly killed every plant I potted it in. I highly suggest Espoma’s Organic Cactus and Succulent mix. I’ve used it for a few years now and it has never failed me. And make sure the pot you repot it in has drainage holes. Terra cotta pots are great for succulents, especially if you worry about overwatering them. Hope this helps!

When my husbands gets too long I loop it around back to the pot and let it rest. Right now the longest stem is on its third loop in this pot. The original portion of the stem is long buried and rooted and the sprouts are babies that have come from dropped leaves. 😹 An eternal looping echivera.

That’s a great idea! I may need to get a bigger pot for her 🧐

I got a wide shallow one. Since succulents like being root-bound I figured that it would like the tight quarters.
