Hi everyone, This is one of my newest plants, Whitney! As you can see in the photo, she’s got some dry spots, and in regards to dissecting with the problem is, it was known for partially needs more lighting (so i moved her to the brightest spot in the office, as well as as it mentioned drainage— My question to you all is do I have to have a pot that actually has a drain hole on the bottom or can I put a layer of rocks on the bottom to create a drain before potting Whitney? Is that even a thing!? Thanks in advance! She’s too pretty to die!!!! I must act fast lol

give yourself the best chance at a tough plant like this and drill a drainage hole!! Use rain or distilled water and check the soil frequently with a wood stick to ensure it never dries out

It is a myth that rocks on the bottom of a pot will provide drainage. There's more science to it than I can explain here but it actually causes more problems.

Interesting! Ok thank you! So basically majority of plants need drainage holes !?

as far as i’m concerned it’s not a pot if there’s no drainage access!! It needs at least one hole. Plus can be a good root check. This alone increased my plant success the most

There are several articles out there about whether or not to put rocks at the bottom of a planter. There's one at "the spruce" and one at "deep green permaculture". I'm sure there are others but I've looked at these two and found them informative. Both articles go a little deeper into the science about it.
