Anyone make their own distilled water? Pro's? Con's? Do you trust it's truly "distilled"?

We had a Reverse osmosis system put in and it has been so great for both our plants and fish tanks! They are a little pricey but once you have it installed all you have to do is change the filters!

Yes, we have RO systems upstairs and downstairs and it’s fantastic. Before that I was buying and hauling around gallons of distilled water. The RO systems are definitely paying for themselves over time.

Get some vitamin c powder / ascorbic acid powder. 15mg per gallon. It’ll make the chlorine negligible for plants 👍

I think Phil had said he got one of these, and it worked well. I have R/O, bought it on sale on Prine day a few years back. I do still buy some distilled for some of my more rare Carnivorous. My not so rare plants I also just use an aquarium dechlorinator, it removes all the nasties, not just chlorine

I purchased one about 2 years ago and have made many, many gallons. My plants have done much better for it. I also make hummingbird food with the distilled water from it. Also used di water for the humidifiers for my plants. The stores would be out of di waster or restrict how much you could buy in the winter Not a problem for me. I let it run overnight because it can be a bit noisy. A good purchase for me.

I use RO water for all my 170 plants. If you have very many, that device will not be enough. It’s almost as pure as distilled. Just had it serviced last Friday and the mineral content was almost zero. And of course it filters out any chemicals your water company adds. Consequently I don’t need to worry about the calatheas, dracaenas, and some others. And if used in a humidifier, there is no mineral residue left in the device or powder left on nearby objects. On a side note, pure water makes everything you use it for taste so much better-drink mixes, coffee, tea, and it makes totally clear ice. By itself, the water has no taste, not like spring water.

Thank you all. I'm going to go for it. I figured, at the least, I won't have to store hop looking for gallons of distilled.

I purchased some cheap plastic pitchers to have about 4 gallons on hand, one I have premixed fertilizer and the other 3 only for water. When I use a gallon, I make a gallon. I have kept an empty container from a store bought gallon and use it to fill the distiller.

I’m not as good as all of y’all! I just fill up a gallon of well water and let it sit uncapped over night. The well service company adds chlorine to our well water for purification 🤷‍♀️

I do this same thing at the moment as well, we're on town water.

I've been buying distilled for my carnivorous, I started using it for the others as well, as the town water is horrible. I too fill gallon jugs and let them sit uncovered for all the bad to disapate. I also have buckets left outside to collect rain water. Sometimes I feel like there is so much time invested in water collection, and hunting for distilled, there's got to be a better way. I'm going to give it shot
