I am repotting my plants on the south facing front porch. I live in SW FL My fiddle fig has roots coming out of the bottom of the pot. I got this or at Target and it has an attached tray for water, but I want to change it to one I can water till it runs out of the bottom and when finished put it back on the porch in a drip tray. Do I need to go up in diameter or height of the planter? TIA!

What I’m familiar with is increasing about an inch wider than the root ball, so increasing in diameter.

You can go one size up in a pot. Typically that's about 2 in bigger than the previous pot so 1 in on all sides. If it's a little larger okay but not too much larger. Some plants will tolerate if you trim the roots back in order to put it back in the same pot. I don't know if the fig is one of those tolerant plants.

I finally got them all back in pots a bit bigger and refilled with Miracle Grow Cactus,Palm & Citrus potting soil. Hoping they’ll be happy in their new pots! Took me about four hours, but I had lots of regrouping with trying out which it’s would be best.
