I just wanted to show everyone this. These are my leaves I decided to cut away tonight. My plants are astoundingly happy and consistently give me new growth. But sometimes we lose leaves and THATS OKAY! Even the best house plant enthusiasts lose leaves. It’s a natural part of life. I wanted to share because I know seeing leaves change and need to be cut away can be discouraging. Keep going and don’t give up! ✨ (Now there’s a difference between losing leaves here/there and losing leaves due to an underlying issue.)

this isn’t a case of “here and there”, thanks for showing an example of completely unnecessary trimming.. why are you butchering a plant due to a tiny bit of browning? do you get a buzz cut every time you have a split end? 🙈

Mmmm to me it was necessary. I like my plants to look a certain way. I’m not “butchering” anything. And yes I go get a haircut when I have split ends, they’re not healthy. If you don’t have anything nice to say, keep scrolling. Thanks! 😌

it is necessary because there are plenty of beginners on here who need to know that cutting off healthy leaves ISNT normal 😊

So fading/yellowing old leaves and iron spots are healthy leaves to you? Interesting. Like I said this is a here/there for ME. Beginners are more than welcome to ask questions as to why I cut them.

Yikes, it appears that “plant moms” are not immune to the plague of online mommy community judgmentalness. I don’t see a problem with cutting off leaves you find unattractive as long as there’s not an underlying issue you’re ignoring. I’m pretty new to this, and it’s not like this post tempted me to go chop up all my plants, lol. I appreciate the message of this post. It’s very easy for beginners to assume there is something wrong with their plant if every leaf doesn’t look perfect. I have to practice a lot of patience and not jump to conclusions when I see something might be wrong, and we all have to practice acceptance that some plants just don’t grow according to plan!

I have a ficus elastica that dropped a bunch of lower leaves a few months into me owning him and I PANICKED. But it's been 2 years since then and he's alive and better than ever. Sometimes you gotta trust the plants to do what's best for themselves
