Any suggestions why my zz leaves are yellowing? I’m supposed to water today and there was a new sprout. Should I go forward with watering or too much sun?

    Check the soil all the way down to see if its still wet. If you it is then snooze the watering. If its dry then it can be watered. Cut the yellow stems off. It looks like overwatering to me.

    I took a look at your zz schedule and it might be worth it to msg support to see if the schedules syncing correctly. These rarely need watering but it looks like you already watered on the 1st so it shouldn’t be asking for water again for another 2 weeks. 🤔

      True I thought it was early too I sometimes forget about watering this one lol so I’ll try to message support!

      I looked at her schedule also. The “3 days ago” is in red. I assumed that means a watering was missed 3 days ago. It says last watering was May 1.

      In the meantime, you can change your watering to a “custom watering schedule” by going into this specific plant’s settings. It’ll let you pick how many days before Planta alerts you about watering it. Given the size of your ZZ, I would wait at least 30 days before watering it, or 30-60 days. These plants thrive on neglect and need to be bone dry before watering. You can use a bamboo/barbecue skewer to test if the soil is dry enough to water. If the skewer comes out clean and dry with nothing sticking to it, it should be safer to water; but it it comes out wet or with soil sticking to it, wait at least 2 days, then test it again. Don’t be scared to neglect this plant in terms of watering. Hope this helps.

      I’ve noticed that it seems to be a common glitch with the watering schedules, with the app recommending you water a lot of plants way earlier than they should be. Feel free to bring it up on the “feedback on planta” group; and they might be more likely to fix the glitch if others reply in the comments that they’ve experienced the same problems. I’ve found it seems to increase how often the glitch occurs every time a new month starts, triggering a change in the watering schedules. My best way to remedy it at the moment has been to change all my plants to a custom watering schedule so the glitch doesn’t change how long the app waits before alerting me to water it anymore, and I’m able to make the schedules more accurate to my specific plant that way. If anyone else is experiencing a sudden change in the schedule, and thinks Planta is recommending to water it much earlier than it should, please report it to the feedback group or staff.

    My ZZs get watered every 4-5 weeks. They’re not heavily watered either. Several live 2 feet from a western window and I have 3 under various grow lights.
