My pothos has been having its leaves turn yellow and die for probably a month now. Planta AI and some google searching told me it was overwatered so I’ve been watering it way less and I checked the roots and there was no root rot, and it’s still not getting better. Any suggestions?

Sorry I’m not sure, but make sure to check for pests.

What’s the potting situation what do you have it on? and what soil mix do you have it in?

It’s a regular Ace hardware type general potting mix

I would recommend putting it in a clear pot with good drainage holes and do a chunky aroid mix and it’ll bounce back maybe that soil you have stays wet too long causing it to stress like that.

Add nitrogen rich potting soil/fertilizer! My ficus showed the exact same symptoms and adding some nitrogen rich soil solved the issue in about a week

It appears to be overwatered to me also. Looking at the plant entry in your Planta, looks like scheduled watering is every 13 days and you missed the last fertilization two days ago. Which is probably a good idea. It also appears to be a very large planter for just one pothos stem. Unless the roots are large. Overwatering can be an issue if there is too much soil and the roots have not expanded into all the soil. The soil will stay too wet where there are no roots to take up the moisture. Terracotta planter was a good choice because it helps prevent that problem. But I think the planter is too big.

I may have looked at the wrong plant in your Planta. Can’t find this one. Did you change the pot.

Thanks! It can be hard to ignore what planta says so I’m glad you agree😅 To answer your second q in terms of the roots/pot, when I checked for root rot this weekend I saw that the roots had expanded pretty well in this pot. It’s been in it for about a year.

Yes my statement is confusing. Should have said the size of the root system or ball. Trying to think it thru, have you changed the lighting? We’re getting into fall and I know the amount of sun in the window is decreasing.

A friend suggested I change the lighting bc he thought it might be getting too much light, so I moved it a little farther from the window and that didn’t help much

Overwatering is always number one but could also be a nutrient deficiency.

Oh yeah. That’s exactly what killed all my plants at first! Try chunky soil. I use 50% potting soil and roughly 25% perlite and 25% orchid Bark. I use 50/50 large perlite and smaller perlite. I also recommend using moisture indicator sticks. You can see one in the photo. Fertilize as directed. You might need to cut the branches back and root them in a glass of water with some root hormone as directed then replant them in the pot. But the plant should survive if you do these things. 🍀 Good luck!

Let it dry out and only water when the top 2 inches are dry

I think nutrient defiant too. I have mine in a hydroponic set up and it was thriving at work and then I brought it home and it started doing the same thing! Obviously the water is different so that’s why I’d lean more nutrient.
