hi everyone! i have a question about propagating my silver sword philodendron. this plant was given to me as a cutting and it is growing AMAZINGLY, however the stem is insanely thin while the top of the plant is getting very thick. i was told to cut the top of the plant so the bottom gets thicker and i wanted to know where the best place to cut would be in order to ensure a healthy thick stem as well as the optimal place to cut for propagation. here’s some pics! thanks

I'd remove the bottom 3 leaves. And cut it just below where that third leaf was. That will be where the new roots come out. And should give a good base for the thicker plant. You could also remove the leaves and air layer it, to get the roots started before you cut it.

To wrap a growing medium around an area of what the roots to come out of and wrap it with plastic to keep it from falling off and to keep the medium moist so roots can form and when formed you can cut just below the roots and plant it after removing the plastic wrap around it. Also what wolfen is trying to say is cut just below a node which are those very noticeable bumps on the stem, on the opposite side of where the leaves attach to the stem, because those are where the roots are going to come out of.

It means to wrap some moist moss around the node you want roots on. So that they start growing, before you cut. There are also some specialized plastic balls that clip on. But the easiest is to take a plastic bag with a slit down one side. Put moist moss in it and surround the node. Then tape the bag securely to the plant. And wait to see roots. I attached a random pic from the net. But If you search on YouTube for "Moss Air Layering" there's tons of videos
