Hello Plant Family! I’ve noticed the soil to my indoor plants (since bringing them to their new home) have been fairly wet - not soggy… since purchase day. I don’t see any signs of rotting but would like to prevent it from happening. They are my new Monstera deliciosa plants. I know they need bright indirect lightening but I don’t think it’s enough whereas the soil seems wet still. Will they be fine or is there something I should do ? Sincerely, - A Happy New Plant Mom. 🪴
The soil that plants come in from the nursery is perfect for the nursery setting. Once they get settled in their new homes they need a soil that works in their new environment. There are lots of great premade aroid soil blends out there that your new monsteras would be very happy in. 😊

This is an indication that the plant isn't getting enough light for the type of soil. I find most soil from nurseries (especially any box box stores) is of poor quality and contributes to root rot. If you have added any water, stop.. Let it dry out more between waterings. If it's still soggy even without adding water, pull it out of the pot and inspect the roots. If they look black/brown. Remove and replace the soil with a good aroid style mix (look for this ratio: 1 Soil, 1 Bark/coco chips, 1/2 Pearlite/pumice). Don't forget to trim off the dead roots. If the roots look good, then you have some time to repot, give it at least a month to acclimate to its new environment.
2 Mi piace As for light. They need a lot. Aim for 4 hours of 1000 foot candles of sunlight or 12 hours of grow light.
