So for the app in “custom name”, or life in general, what do you all name your plants??? Just in Pothos alone, I have 18 of them!! So far! 😂

I usually name my plants something similar to the name they have, or I just try calling them names and see what fits 😂

I was thinking Grandma and Grandpa for two of mine since I’ve had them about 20 years. But some I was thinking Pothos1, Pothos2, etc. and felt bad 😂

Hi there! I love your plant wall/shelf it is so nice Some of my plants’ names are similar to the plant’s name like animals&plants said, but some of them are based on characteristics of each plant or other interests I have (if you scroll through my profile you’ll probably see what i mean). Happy plant naming 🥳🌱

So far I only have one with an actual name, which is my arrowhead confetti, which I named Apollo. Instead, I have been using the plant name part to give the actual names if Planta doesn’t have them and I have to pick a similar plant (like adding variegated to a lot of them that Planta doesn’t have the variegated version), or for adding advanced characteristics, like revert, sport, aurea, etc (see photo). Oh, also, for hybrid names, like Pinguicula emarginata x moctezuma

I have propagated my Pothos many times over the years, so I have several generations! Crazy! I just got my first spider plant so fingers crossed with it!

I have about 130 plants, so when I look at them in list format I like to see them grouped mostly to genus, so I’ll do what I think is scientific name = genus + species. I still have more to learn about botanical taxonomy though. So a pothos njoy would be: Epipremnum aureum 'n'joy' But I’m not consistent across all plant types in doing that. Like for ferns I put fern at the front like “Fern crocydyllus”. Basically in an effort to keep to a grouping. I’m guessing this naming structure is pretty common though: Pothos neon Pothos golden Pothos marble queen Pothos global green Etc.

I like that idea! And 130, holy cow! Once I get more organized and app figured out, I’ll get more plants.

Like others have said I stick close to their given name but tweak it a bit. For example, marble queen pothos is Warble, white wizard philodendron is Merlin etc. But I am loving the suggestions you’re getting!

I give mine actual names lol. Sometimes they’re similar to their original; like using the first letter, sometimes it’s after a characteristic. I just have fun with it! Feel free to check mine out 🤗

Just depends sometimes I think of names right away and sometimes it takes forever. I’ve had my asparagus fern for close to 2 years now and JUST named her. (Weekend at Fernny’s) But I named my Ring of Fire (Mordor) the day I brought it home. Sometimes they come quickly and others take time!
