I am an intermediate plant parent at this point and am a bit unfamiliar with corms! What are they exactly and what type of plants produce them?

corms are root-runners or "pups" that a variety of plants produce, they're baby plants that grow from a mother's root system. alocasia typically only reproduce via corms, as almost all varieties have sterile blooms.

What about my new Monstera Thai Constellation, Herman!? I’m thinking he might be the type…

From what I've seen around here, for corm propagation, you plant them in 100% perlite and keep them in a sealed container for 100% humidity. I presume you'd want to keep a mostly sterile environment for that, so clean them with hydrogen peroxide and wipe the container with isopropyl alchol before using it. Use distilled water and keep them semi-hydro. Or if you prefer to plant them in soil, I'd use a self-watering setup to keep soil moisture really even, and use plastic wrap or a clear dome for seedlings to help with air humidity

The only corm I’ve dealt with is almost killing my alocasia (see last picture of what was left) but trying again and was told to plant the corm about 3/4 into soil, and keep soil moist, and it’s sprouted and is growing. And I’ve heard they prefer humidity… I mimic a pebble tray

i've seen some have success with water trays. more people have luck with perlite or stratum. personally when my silver dragon makes corms i wait for them to sprout from the soil and form a leaf, then transplant to their own pot. i kill less of them that way LOL
