This is a cherry tomato plant. Why are there 2 thick Stems instead of 1 ? Is one a sucker and if so which one so I don’t end up pruning the wrong one.

Yeah one was a sucker, but don’t prune it! When a plant was that small I allow them to have suckers to get fuller. But when it starts flowering I start pulling NEW suckers. In other words that one is too old and it would damage it more than it would help it. But the one on the left is the sucker

Thank you! Does it affect the quality of the fruit?

Nah, might be a bit smaller because there will be more production if the sucker is blooming

Suckers come from the ground. This looks like a natural side branch. You can let it develop if you would like. You probably need a good tomato cage to give it some support. Sometimes people will remove some the side branching so the remaining branches become sturdier.

I'm going to amend my first comment. Not all suckers come from the ground but I still think your situation is not a sucker but a side branch.
