Hey! So I’m pretty new to this plant journey and I have a pretty nice arrangement of plants indoors. I was wondering if I needed a humidifier? Is that just like a mandatory thing or can I live without one?

I feel like the answer is individual to each person and home depending on several things. Grouping your plants together like you have helps to increase the humidity for them. I’m in middle TN, and during the summer the humidity in my home is measurably higher than during the winter. Personally, I have some smaller plants in closed spaces to increase humidity, but most of my plants don’t need it if I group them together. Would it help if I got a humidifier? Probably, but I haven’t. A friend of mine has at least one or two humidifiers, but she also has exponentially more plants (and varieties) than I have, so it may also be something you look into if you continue to grow your collection?
0 LikesLook up the humidity needs for each plant. I have Hoyas mostly and they like humidity. My house (in AZ) usually stays between 40% and 45%. That’s low for Hoyas, but they still do okay. i still try to run a humidifier daily for a few hours to help 🤷♀️
0 LikesI need to clarify. The humidity around my plants is around 40% to 45% in their grouping. If they weren’t grouped it’s quite a bit less.
1 Likeif you notice any unexplained health issues with your plants, such as crispy leaves but no change in watering or drying out quickly then you might want to invest in one. i live where humidity is naturally 50-60% and got one but i don’t notice much difference besides more gnats and less frequent watering
0 LikesGet a hydrometer so you can keep track of your indoor humidity they’re relatively inexpensive. Then research what your plants tolerate as far as humidity and adjust your set up accordingly. Make sure you have good airflow too to avoid mold or fungus!
