Hello! I am new ish to the plant community. I have had a bird of paradise come into my home a few months ago. I've been attempting to humidify him and fertilize him. He has shade for the first half of the day and some direct sun as directed. He doesn't stand tall and is very droopy is the best word? His leaves are torn, brown, and curling and I need some help with a diagnosis? If anyone has any clues I'd appreciate it! This plant has never flowered as I was told by the past owner.

If your bird is getting afternoon direct sun that may be too harsh. Morning Sun would be better and plenty of bright indirect light. They like high humidity and regular watering. It's important that your soil be well draining so that it doesn't get waterlogged. Birds are heavy feeders so starting in spring throughout the growing season water weekly with a liquid fertilizer following package directions or use a slow release product according to package directions. They like warm temperatures and It will love being outdoors in the summer as long as it's not in direct sunlight.

I live in an apartment building so I'm not sure I could do direct morning light unfortunately. I'll definitely try higher humidity

Is there a patio where it would get indirect light? They really need lots of light so if you can't give it natural light you might want to consider a grow light.

I live in zone 9 where they are a part of every landscape getting full sun everyday and blooming all year round while at it, I threw mine outside last year and all three are finally growing

I think if they're grown indoors most of the time the direct sun is too harsh but if they're outdoors and have adapted to the full sun as they do in zone 9 then they love that sun. Most people I know are trying to grow them as indoor plants and they can't just thrust them out into the sun. I bet yours are beautiful.
