It’s probably fake dyed moss, what kind of plant is it that’s in there
3 Me gustaJaclyn Alocasia
1 me gustaIts not fake, it is something called preserved moss, this some times dyed weird colors for some reason.
6 Me gustaI would take it off and get some plant specific spagnum moss (if you want to air layer your alocasia), plant nurseries sell them as well as some online plant stores
2 Me gustaIt’s moss. I call it evil moss because it takes nutrients away from the plant. I’d throw it out and top it off with fresh soil.
4 Me gustaThank you! It stinks! I can't stand the smell. This sphagnum moss, sold specifically for alocacias then? Ok shopping again! 😆 I always come out with a plant I don't need lol, my husband is going to kick me out of the house lmaooo
2 Me gustaIt smells, because it is preserved moss corpses. Fun right, hehe.
4 Me gustaI swear its the actual dye that gives it that aroma. Cuz normal dried moss doesn't smell that awful. Especially if it's been cleaned properly. Some places use it so its not detrimental if they don't water. But you may have rotting issues if you leave it too. As it will hold in moisture right on top of the corm.
2 Me gusta@ EY, Halloween is over... no more corpses! Lol I'll remove it! @ Wolf/others, anything else I can use instead?
0 Me gustaWell draining regular potting mix, because my imperial elephant ear ‘black beauty’ (colocasia antiquorum ‘black beauty’) is doing well in it.
1 me gustaI’d put real sphagnum moss
