I got this Orchid Coarse Soil Amendment mix from Home Depot. Can monsteras survive with just this? It’s a very fast draining soil.

I wouldn’t recommend it…. I add a heavy mix of orchid bark with regular potting soil and extra perlite for a chunky aroid mix that they seem to really like. Optional but I also add in a dash of worm castings (poop) for fertilizer.
5 likesThanks for commenting. Forgot to mention that I have the monstera on a moss pole. Would that change the recommendation? I know with moss poles, you need fast draining soil. Thoughts?

Wouldn’t make a difference. They need to be able to absorb nutrients from the soil. Aerial roots are different than the below ground ones. The only time that a plant can survive without soil is if the plant is specifically adapted to do so like epiphites and carnivorous plants. Even if you grow your regular houseplants in water, you’d need to supplement with nutrients (hydroponic mix) that they would normally get from soil.

I agree with Lucy’s suggested potting mix. It’s what both of my monsteras are in and they are both more than 5 feet tall.
