I’m so downhearted!! I’ve wanted this plant forever ♾️ and idk what I’m doing wrong but she’s not at all happy!! She’s getting spots that look like she’s has had stuff poured on her but she hasn’t Ava she also has little patches of tiny black specks. Any insight or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!

I understand your frustration. It took a long time to get my Triostar to the point of thriving. From my experience, they absolutely need high humidity. My calatheas were doing fine but the Triostar next to them still had brown leaves. I had to raise the humidifier settings to about 50 to 55%. Plus I transferred to semi hydro. Now growing too much. I need to do an upsize. Pic is current. A few brown edges because humidifier has been off a few weeks—redoing my plant space. Also try distilled or RO water.

So amazing!! Okay I’m super good at hydroponics but could you walk me thru making it semi-hydro, please 🙏? I have only used distilled water and I’ve got my humidity level high and that’s just due to the weather situation in FL but when it’s not so humid and rainy I’m using a humidifier.

Sounds like you’re doing right then. Give it more time to adjust. I babied it for months. If you decide to go semi hydro, my most difficult issue was getting all the soil off of the roots. Every week or so, I would take it out of the leca and clean up the roots. The most convenient planters for leca are from Wavyleaf. Cheaper if you buy direct. And almost forgot, I switched my plant supplements over to Growth Technologies about the same time. Available thru PlantHaul.

I listen to Phil since he has had such great success. I would also consider filtered water, or rainwater if you are not using it already.

My trio has brown tips. Even on the newest growth. I thought it was root rot but even after getting rid of all the bad roots I still have the same issue. I have it in a self watering pot and she’s got a lot of new growth but never thought of semi hydro for it. I might have to repot her in pon. Thanks for the idea!
