What’s wrong with my Venus fly trap? I’ve always killed these but have it another shot. Its traps turn a lemon yellow and then eventually black. I mist it twice a week, water it when planta says. The only thing I can think is it’s not getting enough light. It’s pretty far from the window but I don’t have room for it to be closer. Does it need a grow light?

From what I've learned for mine, needs lots of sun and no tap water.

Needs high humidity. Put it under a cloche.

Vts need full sun. They are also not an indoor plant ideally. They also are a bog plant, so they should be sitting in a tray of water (Distilled or Rain water.. tap water will kill them) that's at least an inch deep. And they go dormant in winter.. ie.. they look dead as hell until spring. If you choose to have them inside, they should be in the coldest part of your home in the fall winter. And in a south window w/full sun or a growlight that's ideally upwards of 10,000 k during the spring and summer

Don’t use tap water, use distilled water, reverse osmosis water or rain water, because tap water has too much minerals and will kill it. Also did it get bugs to eat, because that is the only way they get nutrients due to the fact they are adapted to living in nutrients poor soil, which means they don’t get nutrients from the soil they are in. Another thing don’t top water, you should bottom water it instead, since top watering can cause crown rot. And misting is unnecessary as well and you should be drowning your Venus fly trap in direct full sun, the more sun the better it will do.

I think I might gift it to someone with more sun then 😢. Sounds like I don’t have enough sun for it.

It only needs at least 8 hours of direct sunlight.

I don’t think I can give it that. My windows are pretty low light.

You can use a grow light to provide that light. And there are a lot of cheap ones.

The traps die off naturally after a while too
