Hey I’m new to plants it’s something I’ve been wanting to get into for awhile now. We had a funeral yesterday and well I ended up with plants and I’m not sure fully on the type or why’s best to care for them. I plan on getting a grow light here soon but I’m not sure where to start any advice or help would be great!

So sorry for your loss. This one’s a Ficus Elastica Burgundy. Would you like some care tips for it?

I can share what I’ve learned from having mine 1. They do well when they’re bottom watered. If you’re new to that, look up “how to bottom water a plant” on YouTube. It’s really easy and helps prevent overwatering and attracting fungus gnats. 2. Though they are low light plants, gradually transitioning them into brighter light helps mine grow new leaves a lot faster. I transitioned mine from within a foot of a south facing window to into the windowsill of said window for the winter. 3. You’ll want a well-draining soil mix. Mine are currently in cactus and succulent mix, but they also do well in a mix of 50% succulent mix and 50% all purpose mix. I swear by Espoma for this, and avoid anything Miracle Grow as I live in a more humid area in the summer and their soil has never worked well where I live. 4. They enjoy being in an apartment, not a mansion. Keeping mine more snug in their pots according to their root ball has kept them from getting overwatered or developing root rot. 5. I let mine completely dry out between waterings, but letting them almost completely dry out works well for them too. 6. The leaves get dusty every 1-2 months, so I used microfiber gloves and a diluted Castile soap and water mixture or diluted insecticidal soap and water mix in a spray bottle to wipe the leaves down. I personally prefer this to using neem oil on my plants, but there’s tons of leaf cleaning recipes around, and if you’ve got a mix you like for your plants, stick with it. That’s about it. They can be slower growing than some other plants, so don’t be too worried if they don’t develop new leaves all the time, especially this season. Hope this helps!

Check them all very carefully for pests or diseases. Had a funeral about a month ago and pry half of the plants ended up having problems. And to anyone who is gonna give plants to people at a funeral, please make sure they are healthy, a sick plant is the last thing those people need..

I would check for pests, do research on the plants to see what they need, what struggle with so you can understand them better. Some plants are more prone to pests than others so it’s important to get to know them to help them thrive. This app has a really amazing community I’m relatively new to plants as well and this plant lovers community has always been such a help for me ✨🩷 don’t be afraid to ask for help
