Hi. I decided I wanted to learn plants. I got easy starter plants- pothos, zz, cast iron. I got them home, changed out pot and soil, and watered. I used a moisture meter and all are very wet. Will they be ok on the porch for a day to dry up a little? I dont want root rot. I live in central Texas and it’s around 100 degrees every day.
“An under watered plant is MUCH easier to save than an overwatered plant” was what changed the game for me. With 100 degrees, they will likely be fine. Just check them everyday and it will give you an idea of what they need and how often. ZZ and pothos have VERY different needs

Check them in the afternoon tomorrow or when the sun starts to hit them. I used to live in San Antonio, my Pothos and ZZs were fine in the shade. Leaving them in direct sunlight will likely sun burn the leaves even with wet soil. Depending on where you bought them, this might be too extreme of a change for them. Plants don't like changes in environments. They can adapt, but it takes a lot of time.

1 like A deep drenching after repotting is fine. Just don't let them sit in soggy soil for too long. The ZZ is a drought tolerant plant and holds water in it's ryzomes. So let the soil fully dry out between watering. Pothos should wait until the top 2 inches of the soil is dry between waterings, but can handle fully dry soil for short periods of time. I never had a cast iron plant, so no suggestions there.

Agree with all the advice here. Also, trust your finger or use a chopstick to check when to water. Insert to depth (for some it’s the top quarter, for others it’s the top half of the pot). If it comes out damp, wait another day and recheck. I found water meters tend to read wrong and I would overwater.

Good advice I’d just be careful of the sun even my fly traps can’t handle the Texas sun some days so just don’t put them directly in the sun light
