I have this Angel Begonia that has grown tremendously since moving it closer to indirect light. It has grown to the point that it is tipping the pot. I know I should put it in a bigger pot but should I propagate it at the same time? There is another smaller plant in the same pot that I thought I would leave depending on the roots. Advice anyone? She is so pretty I am scarred to repot/cut.

You absolutely can propagate it! I had one that was about 6 inches tall that my cats ate down to the dirt (tsk tsk naughty kitties) and I regrew it and chopped it, and regrew it and chopped it, until it was better looking. And then it flowered! As far as knowing you should put it in a bigger pot that’s really more determined by: is the plant healthy? Is it root bound? Is a plant that enjoys being root bound? Is it struggling to stay hydrated? Etc. More so than “it just looks too big for the pot.” if it’s happy in the size pot it is you can put that pot in a bigger pot with rocks or bricks or something to stabilize it so that it’s heavier than the plant. If it’s ready for a new pot, you can also do that or do both! 😊 Also, if you do end up propagating it, just leave the mother plant in that pot until you’re ready to do it all at one time, so as to shock the plant as little as possible. If you’re creating two separate plants, then you can just cut off what you don’t want from this pot and create a new pot when you’re ready. One thing to keep in mind with propagation is that if you leave it in the water for a really long time, it will develop water roots. It’s not a problem, but you just have to make sure that your new plant gets watered more at the beginning.

My sister cut off the top of her plant (about 3’) and took the cut portion and dug a little hole in the same pot, then stuck it in the dirt giving plant food too. She thought, after three weeks that she’d blown it because the cutting was still in shock. She gave me the plant! I have had it for two weeks and it is coming out of shock!!! Begonias are so easy!

You can also give it something to climb. I’ve seen lots of them do really well with a trellis.
