Good morning lovelies, I’ve never seen this plant before, and it was marked down for $14.88 at a local hardware store so I grabbed her. She’s pretty! But I have to research now. Planta identifies her as Ctenanthe lubbersiana. Anybody have experience with this plant? Tips or tricks? Thank you!! 🌱

Ctenanthe is a cousin to the calathea. They are not as finicky. I have a Ctenanthe Amagris. She is well behaved. Calatheas are sensitive to tap water and hard water. So, they prefer rainwater or bottled water. I recommend starting with distilled or rain water. My Ctenanthe Amagris lives on hard tap water. The leaves droop when they need water or need more light. Water after the soil dries out. They will do better in bright indirect light. Mine is in a medium light northeast window. It has doubled in size since last summer. Fertilize with diluted fertilizer in the growing season. 🍀🪴

They are prayer plants so they will naturally lower their leaves in the morning and raise them at night. Make sure to recognize their normal behavior, and don’t think it’s drooping because it’s thirsty. All my prayer plants are in well draining soil and under grow lights 12 hrs a day.

Thank you! I was thinking they look similar… The leaves are lowered now during the day - is that concerning? I’m sure it was marked down for some reason but I can’t see any pests or anything.

No they go nearly flat during the day and upright at night as part of their normal behavior.
