Hydrangeas outside did not flower this summer. How do I prune so they look nice next year?

I didn’t get much of blooming with my pot on my patio. I have one flower out the entire pot that’s not exposed to a lot of sun. For the greenery I normally just cut off any brown tips. However if you cut I would go to the base of that stem to prune

I’m just allowing my pot to remain as is, they will come back next year regardless. I live in Texas and was told this zone no longer do good for hydrangeas like it use too

Cut in the flat opening of taller stems

You need to know what type you have first. Some grow from the old wood and some grow new each year.
