Is this pot too small? Should I size up? He was recently repotted into this one which is slightly bigger than the nursery pot and just enough space for the root ball size, which is what I’ve read/heard to go by when choosing pot sizes. But a friend suggested the pot be bigger for the leaves. They are growing long and bending and actually cracking at the bending point.

I would definitely go up 1 more pot size - anything too big will encourage root rot. cracking leaves and some brown tips I see make me think it might be underwatered or in too much sun. hope this helps !

I don’t THINK I’m underwatering so I’m gonna say probably too much sunlight. I do keep it on a shelf in front of a window. And I am considering a size up. Thank you!

the pot doesn’t look too small to me, though checking the rootball is the only way to know for sure. if it’s more than 90% roots it needs a bigger pot. leaves bending and breaking can be due to underwatering

I edited the post to add another pic to show what I meant by bending/cracking leaves. They’re growing upwards and then flopping at a point as if they’re too heavy and that’s where it’s beginning to crack. As for the rootball, I checked it and this pot seemed to be the perfect fit where there wouldn’t be more soil than roots.

i see, i get these marks on my spiders that have been left dry too long frequently. they will heal bent on their own but you can brace the leaf as it heals with a toothpick, skewer, or chopstick, or some other lightweight stick-shaped object to help it heal straight. i place a bamboo skewer in the bottom of the “v” of the broken leaf and secure it about an inch on either side of the break with some loosely tied pieces of twine. then, leave the splint or brace on for a few days or a week after watering to allow the leaf to heal fully. you could also use tape as long as it’s not too sticky like masking tape. if you’re finding it is too easy to underwater your spider plant, it may be a good idea to upsize the pot even though it’s not rootbound since the soil will stay wet longer in a larger pot.

Thank you! I did actually try this and it seems to be working.

I feel like that pot is a good size but the way the leaves are growing-upwards and then flopping and cracking- idk what to do. Figured a wider pot would help the leaves lay better.

Cracking leaves show insufficient water or possibly low light. The dry tips are another indication of under watering. Repotting can stress the plant causing similar conditions from disturbed or damaged roots. Too much sun doesn’t make the leaves crack. It will burn the leaves if it gets too much sun. I recommend leaving it in the current pot. It doesn’t look too small. I have many spider plants in pots and in the ground. I don’t repot too often. They are happy being almost root bound.🍀🪴

Thank you! I will leave it alone and just make sure I water sufficiently
