Another question for you genus’s out there. When I repot should I add systemic to the soil right off the bat to prevent bugs 🪳

i never do this — it’s very toxic. i don’t even use this to treat pests if i can help it, but never preventatively

I actually do this every year when I repot. I lost a TON of plants last Fall to thrips. Systemics were what got rid of them and I haven’t had other pests at all. So, when I repotted in the spring, I added the systemics. I haven’t had any pests all summer. So I’m calling that a win. The container says apply every three months. So I will likely do it this fall as plants growth slows down but not again until repot/refresh in the spring. People have strong opinions about using chemicals. I understand that as well. If I had pets or kids at home, I would probably not use them.

That’s where I am at. No kids no pets. I also checked out videos on YouTube and that seems to be the consensus.

I also saw that people use mosquito tabs. What ever works for you is the best plan, with research 🧐

+1 for routine systemics. I do bonide systemic granules every couple months and water with beneficial nematodes every watering. No pests or fungus gnats with any of my plants.

I need to research this beneficial nematodes magic! 🤓
0 likesI do systemic granules when repotting a new plant and every 5-6 months after as preventative maintenance

I’ve struggled with aphids for my outdoor plants this year and was going out of my mind trying to solve it. It was too late for me to start systematic though. I’m also a big fan of natural- chemical was my LAST resort (as I had lot of herbs, and edibles). I learned about doing a neem oil soak once a month. I bought concentrate in Amazon and I mix it with water and some dish soap and water all of them. It kills all the pests and gnats, and by doing it monthly it goes through the plants vascular system as well. I can finally say it’s been effective and has really helped me.
