Hi everyone! My rubber plant has lost all its leaves at the bottom - any suggestions? I was reading I could notch it a couples times. Or do I just cut it? I’m worried it won’t grow roots with that many leaves. Thanks in advance!

I've had my rubber plant for years. And I've topped it at least once maybe twice. Cut the top take off a few leaves from the bottom and replant it in the same pot and your bottom stem should also grow new branches.

Thanks! Good to know. When you top it do you take the entire top off and leave a stem without leaves?

You can take it down as far as you want. There do not have to be leaves on the bottom but there does have to be on the top. At a minimum you should have at least three leaves on the top and then two or three nodes that will go into the soil where it will root. Depending on how much you want to take off you could actually root a middle section leaving a couple leaves on the top and taking the leaves off where it goes into the soil. That's only if you have enough stem and you want to take it down low enough. It looks like your tree might be 4 to 5 ft tall so I think I would take it down halfway. Of course you don't have to take it down that low and it would still be fine.

Now that I've read that let me clarify. You do not have to have any leaves on the trunk that is left after you make the cut. The pieces that you're propagating need to have a couple leaves.
