Let’s talk about grow lights! In my home we do not have a lot of natural light available through windows so I bought these cheap grow lights off amazon. They’re set around 12-18 inches above the plants (depending on the plants) and they’re on a 12 hour timer. Am I actually giving my plants what they need? Do I need more of these lights? What brands do you recommend? I grow outdoors in the spring and summer but don’t want my plants dying over the cold months

Sorry to say but they probably won’t give you enough light. Use the full spectrum setting and always use brightest setting. They will be of no use on succulents. I use Barrina brand for my tropicals and Sansi for my succulents. Plus I have a few decent off brands. Pic is a recent off brand at a very good price.

The major problem with the reviews is that these buyers probably have no other grow lights for comparison and therefore think they are very bright. But they are not. I have many grow lights I can use to compare.

I think you’ll be happy with. Not quite wattage efficient as Sansi but much less money than Sansi.

I’ve been following computer advice: Buy the best you can afford. Use the highest setting with these, but upgrade for cacti. Good luck.

I’ve done a lot of research and bought a lot of grow lights over the years, and Barrina is my go to brand for grow lights. In my opinion, they’re by far the best quality for the price. They will cost more than your super cheap lights, but they’re definitely worth it; one barrina grow light is much stronger than even multiple cheap grow lights working together. If I had the budget for it, I’d splurge for some Soltech lights. As to whether your current set up is enough or not, I’d recommend buying a light meter or downloading a free one to actually measure how much light your plants are receiving from the grow lights. That’s the best way to determine if they’re actually working for you or not. The free app may be less accurate but will get you in the ballpark. You can look up how much light the plant should be receiving in foot candles or lux and then see if the leaves are receiving that much.

Agreed with others, Barrina and Soltech are my go-tos depending on need and how much extra $$ I have. I did also manage to get some of the mossify individual plant grow lights before they sold out and LOVE them for individual plants. Pic here has the mossify for each plant with some barrina’s up top

PS this is my TLC corner. Most of them came with bugs and had to be chopped back entirely. But they’re making a comeback!
