I've got this string of hearts that's I've had for about a year! I love her and I was thrilled when she started shooting pink leaves. My only problem is that she's not shootint any leaves closer to the top of her pot (she's bald up there, poor lady) and I was wondering if there's anything I can do to encourage leaf growth at the top? She's in succulent soil, very well drained, and hung up in a window that gets a lot light during the day. She's growing very, very long and I give her some liquid fertilizer during the spring.

Some pruning / dead heading come spring time would help it tremendously

Oh god, that sounds scary. How far up would I need to cut? I do you think I could propagate what I cut off?

You should definitely trim her up and propagate her! Especially since she is so bare! Look up the butterfly method for propagating string of hearts! I have always used this method when mine start to get bare and they come back beautifully!

Thank you so much! I might trim maybe just a few of her stems to experiment with it, and then do the rest if that goes well!

I had the same problem, and I just took the existing growth and placed it on top of the soil. I pinned it down with little plastic pins. When it started to root in, I clipped the trundles from the parent plant. After they started to get some growth, I was better about trimming it back to keep it bushy. It is fascinating that when these plants grow in the wild, they’re not hanging plants. They grow on the ground and creep up trees like a vine.
